GOVERNMENT plans for town and village greens are a "kick in the teeth" for localism, claim campaigners. The Open Spaces Society claims the Growth and Infrastructure Bill would make it difficult to register land as a town or village green once it had been identified for development. Defra says the bill would ensure communities that want land developed in their areas will no longer be overruled by an abuse of legislation.

A plaque has been presented by Chamber to George Yard Shopping Centre, to put on public view. The plaque honours the contributions made by George Shiffner, David East, David Possee and Jean Stock to the town community.

The plaque was unveiled by Chair of Braintree District Council Cllr Janet Money on Saturday 15th October 2011.
